Level 3 gives you advanced techniques through hands-on learning. It builds on the foundations from Levels 1 and 2 and is the next step in advancing to your Red Seal designation. The program includes mentorship from our experienced instructors to help you grow in the industry and includes:
- 6 weeks of training with a mix of in-person and online classes
- the G.R. Paine Horticultural Training Centre as well as Milner Gardens and Woodlands
Level 1
Level 1 is covered in VIU’s Horticulture Technician certificate program. VIU does not offer Level 1 as a stand-alone program.
Level 2
Level 1 is covered in VIU’s Horticulture Technician certificate program. VIU does not offer Level 1 as a stand-alone program.
Level 3
In Level 3 you will master advanced skills in:
- plant health and care
- specialized horticulture practices
- hardscape installation and maintenance
- softscape installation and maintenance
- business management
Eligibility
To take Level 3 you must:
- have successfully completed level 2 landscape horticulture apprenticeship level, or will have completed it before level 3 begins
- be a registered apprentice with an active Skilled Trades BC (formerly ITA) apprenticeship number
- have a registered sponsor employer through Skilled Trades BC
